PROMISEworks is a local mentoring charity pairing disadvantaged and vulnerable young people between the ages of 5-25 years with mentors from across the region. Since the charity’s mentoring programme was launched in 2017, hundreds of young people have received help with difficulties at home, their education and training.

However, PROMISEworks is short of mentors in the West Somerset area. The charity is currently facilitating over 150 mentor-mentee partnerships across the entire county, though with only 8 in West Somerset.

Rachel Gilmour MP is urging constituents to consider signing up to be a mentor to make a positive impact on the lives of local young people.

Sue Bill, Somerset Coast Area Co-ordinator for PROMISEworks, said:

“I am extremely excited to be working with Rachel and her team to raise awareness of PROMISEworks across the West Somerset area. We provide vital support to vulnerable children and young people through long-term volunteer mentoring throughout Somerset.

Working collaboratively with Rachel will help further establish PROMISEworks at the heart of the local community. West Somerset faces its own challenges as a rural area; however, this has also fostered a vibrant and creative community with a strong passion for supporting one another. We hope to recruit many more amazing volunteers to continue and grow this invaluable work.”

Rachel Gilmour MP said:

“I will continue to work closely with Sue and the rest of the PROMISEworks team to increase the numbers of mentors in West Somerset. In what is a very rural part of the country, the partnerships formed through their mentoring programme have changed lives, offering young people hope and aspiration.
