Independent report confirms that previous Conservative administrations are to blame for Somerset Council's financial emergency

🚨INDEPENDENT REPORT CONFIRMS THAT PREVIOUS CONSERVATIVE ADMINISTRATIONS ARE TO BLAME FOR SOMERSET COUNCIL'S FINANCIAL EMERGENCY🚨

To those blaming the Liberal Democrats for the financial emergency at Somerset Council... you're wrong. 

An independent report from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has confirmed that poor decisions made by previous Conservative-led administrations are to blame for Somerset Council's inherited precarious financial situation. 

This report displays how the six-year Council Tax freeze, on top of the report stating that "it is clear that the business case for unitarisation may have under-estimated timescales over which the benefits of the new council might reasonably come to hand", have left the council underfunded for many years, ultimately leading to Somerset Council's financial emergency. ❌

This report also highlights the "very significant effort being made by members and officers of the council, under the current leadership, to resolve challenges currently faced." ✅
